Gingivitis is perhaps one of the most common gum diseases. It determines a change in the color, shape, texture and contour of this tissue. Transformations may occur partially or all over the teeth surface.

Gingivitis has a non-specific symptom and shows classic signs of inflammation, with swollen, reddish gum, glossy appearance with violet shades depending on the severity, bleeding and pain. Removing the causative agent by supragingival and subgingival dental scaling;
Professional brushing;

Regular oral hygiene, including proper brushing and rinsing with mouthwash, removes gingivitis. Daily use of dental floss will reduce the plaque. Electric toothbrushes are more useful than manual ones.

How to prevent gingivitis:

Consume vegetables and fruits, ensuring your body needs of vitamin C.
Use toothpaste containing herbal extracts.
Wash your teeth at least twice a day.
Quit smoking.
Go to the dentist twice a year (every 6 months).

Gingivitis is not a direct health threat, but untreated may cause local and systemic complications. The most common complication is the periodontal disease, which causes tooth loss.
